Newsletter VS Social Media

on a quest to authenticity

Hey β€” it’s James

I've been on a quest for authenticity lately. Maybe it's because my Notion templates business doesn't allow for much of it (and maybe this is a story I'm telling myself πŸ˜‰).

But I've been wanting to start a project that could allow for more authenticity. And I think it will be this newsletter.

So, why another newsletter?

Well, first because I like the proximity it enables. It allows meaningful discussions with my audience, much like how I enjoy engaging with other creators' newsletters. To me, a reply to my newsletter carries far more weight than a comment on social media. It creates a genuine connection with the reader.

It's also a medium that feels less stressful. I want to treat this one like a blog: you'll receive emails, but it's really just me sharing my thoughts once I feel comfortable putting them out into the "world" (that's you and the handful of other readers who'll receive this).

Unlike social media, it truly allows writing for yourself. I'm not trying to go viral, nor tracking numbers; I'm simply decluttering my brain. And maybe you'll find some of these thoughts inspiring, or at least, I hope, interesting.

Whatever your thoughts β€” please feel free to engage. I love receiving your emails, starting new conversations, and helping whenever I can!

That's it for today β€” I'm pumped to start this new project 🫢

Bits

  • This app lets you track the sun's position based on your location. It's super useful for knowing where shadows fall throughout the day.

  • Ever thought about doing an Ironman in Antarctica? Me neither β€” but Anders did, and it's all captured in this stunning documentary (available for free on YouTube).
